Exclusive Interview with Amado J Garcia

How has music impacted & inspired you?

Music has lived in my family since before I was born. My dad to this day plays the Bajo Sexto and he sings along with my mom, whom I believe had the most beautiful voice when she sang. My uncle played the accordion and harmonized with them when we would all go visit family in Mexico. Now if all that wasn’t enough of an impact. All five of my siblings also play various instruments and sing as well. My family as a whole inspires me, they are the ones that lead me into the different genres of music. It was a balance of everything from R&B to Alternative to Tejano & Norteno.

You went viral with your rendition of John Pardi’s – Heartache Medication, giving it some Tejano/Conjunto fusion elements. How did that idea come about & How did you put that together being that you sang and played all the instruments?

The idea came to me one morning when I just couldn’t get the song out of my head. It was originally just going to be a song I was going to add to my set list for solo performances. As I was writing some notes in my studio, my Bajo for some reason seemed to be staring me down. I picked it up and played a little, realizing that I could also play the same key on my accordion. So there I was switching up playing between the two. I stopped and immediately called my friend Jacob Casas and told him I got a project that I needed his help with. It was around 11am and there I was hauling instruments over to his studio. We got set up & started recording. At a little past 12am the same day the official track was laid out.

I went through a few listening sessions from various artist(s) trying to find that one song that stood out and got stuck in my head again lol. While I was doing so I was also in thought, wondering if I could actually do everything to put that song together. I mean literally as I would have to perform, record the track and video it all then to mix & edit.  After I finally picked Flaco Jimenez’s song it was then trying to give it my own interpretation.

It took me a few days & many hours worth of work, but overall I was pretty satisfied with the end result!

Is there an album of sorts in the works?

Unfortunately at the moment nothing is officially set but I have a lot of ideas for other covers, along with some original songs that I’m very excited about. I believe it’s only a matter of time before things come together and those projects come to light.

You play all of your own instruments along with doing your vocals is there a band for yourself coming together?

I am a musician full time, if I’m not at the studio I am gigging with a variety band I’ve been a part of for about three years called “Sol Flair”

In between playing the drums for them, I fill in here and there along with a few solo performances with my guitar.  I have given it a lot of thought and I am in fact working on a full latin project/band for live performances.

We look forward to hearing more from you and wish you all the best in your musical endeavors.

If I could take the time to give a huge shout out to Jacob Casas, Christian Baeza & Eddie Vela for being such amazing friends. Thank you for always having my back & supporting me in anything that I do musically. To all the people that have liked and shared my work, thank you all so much.
